About Jim
Hi - I’m Jim McCarthy - Creator of drum-clinic.com. So - About ME?:
These days I perform in “The Rhythm Works”, R@taque Percussion Duo and various other shows. I also teach percussion to a wide variety of students. I concentrate mainly on hand technique which is my speciality, and run clinics and masterclasses based on my book - Stick Technique.
Developing and teaching the technical aspects of hand and stick motion at the leading edge of drumming, has been a growing passion for well over a decade, and started whilst studying and performing the snare drum solos of legends John Wooton and Marty Hurley in my university days.
I studied Percussion at Adelaide University for a number of years first under Richard Smith then under Jim Bailey, and finished in 1996 with A Masters degree in performance.
